NATIONAL CATERING EQUIPMENT CENTRE

Extensive refurbishing of an existing warehouse, including partial demolition, construction and internal fit out of a new highly glazed, flagship trade showroom that acts as a permanent exhibition space. Works also include re-cladding and re-branding to enhance the appearance of the retained existing building.

WDA Architects were appointed following a short design competition to realise the clients’ aspirations to create a new flagship trade & retail outlet providing commercial catering equipment to serve the South West. The new building provides 4,500m2 of new retail area set beneath a distinctive, sinusoidal steel roof, providing a visual reference to the industrial heritage of the site. The project achieved BREEAM Very Good and incorporates sustainable drainage and passive ventilation along with insulation which exceed Building Regulations. The NCEC (National Catering Equipment Centre) displays over 2000 differing products within the new trade & retail space, along with training rooms and a full training and demonstration commercial kitchen, where customers are encouraged to try out the equipment available.
